Coastal

Waves

Accurate prediction of wave heights is often the critical component of any remedy intended to resolve a coastal problem. Waves that overtop a seawall negate a seawall’s protective capability; waves that rearrange or washout rocks from a revetment do the same. Throughout its history, Taylor Engineering has applied site-specific methods, from simple to complex, to estimate waves for almost all coastal engineering projects including

  • Beach design
  • Coastal structure design
  • Flood hazard mapping
  • Inlet management plans
  • Levee design
  • Wave agitation inside port and marina basins

To estimate wave heights at a given location, we employ one or more of the following:

  • Numerical modeling
  • Desktop assessment techniques
  • Short- and long-term (extreme) statistical analysis
  • Hindcast of inland and open coast waves
