Historically operated primarily as a cargo port, the Port of Fort Pierce - one of 14 Florida deepwater ports - plans to diversify with strong emphasis on improving port facilities for combined cargo, mega-yacht operations, and tourism and recreation.
St. Lucie County, acting as the Fort Pierce Port Authority, recently retained Taylor Engineering and its project team to provide port engineering services, on a task order basis, to assist the county with maintenance and development of the Port of Fort Pierce in accordance with the community's vision.
Taylor Engineering is currently working on the North 2nd Street widening. The purpose of this project is to conduct a preliminary evaluation of alternative designs for the reconstruction of North 2nd Street from State Road A1A to the northern terminus at the south line of an existing boat storage facility. North 2nd Street is an existing two-lane road that serves as the entrance road to the Port of Fort Pierce. The reconstruction of North 2nd Street is an important component of the 2002 Port Master Plan to develop the Port into a commercial, recreational and industrial area.
