Taylor Engineering recently signed on as a subcontractor to provide engineering design services to the Tampa-based Birkitt Environmental Services (BES) for a large-scale site development project in Charlotte County, Florida. BES, with our support, will lead the environmental permitting effort for the project's water-related components. The project - located on the north bank of the Peace River adjacent to Interstate 75 - involves designing a series of navigable canals, 200-slip marina, boat ramp, residential docks, and a boat lift. Due to the unique characteristics of the site, we must isolate the interior waters from the tidally influenced Peace River to meet State of Florida flushing requirements. As such, the canal system will serve as part of the overall stormwater system for the entire development. Work on the project will require contributions from our Waterfront Engineering, Hydrology and Hydraulics, and Coastal Engineering groups. The project owner plans to develop the site for multiple uses including commercial, single family home residential, and condominium products.
