Ft. George Roadway Reventment Design and Permitting

Taylor Engineering designed a 2,000-foot shoreline protection system to guard against a migrating inlet channel and eroding ocean front shoreline. The shoreline had started to encroach upon the right-of-way for State Route A1A, a major hurricane evacuation route in Duval County. This system - designed for the high-energy environment - includes both a stone revetment and 400-foot steel sheet pile breakwater (dictated by limited space) with tiebacks under the roadway (without pavement damage). Dune ridge construction will completely conceal the sheet pile after construction and preserve the appearance of an environmentally sensitive beach area. The project cost, including maintenance of traffic, nears $5 million. Creative design adjustments allow for incorporation of a future public  bike path.
